Figure 1 shows the main screen of the desktop application. Each Palm user has its own configuration, you can choose which one to edit by selecting the user from the drop down list on the upper left corner of the dialog.
You will see a list of all the text bases on your Palm. By double clicking on any line of the list you can edit its details. You can also add, or delete lines from the list. If you click on the header title the list will be sorted by that column.
If you delete a text base from the list you will be given the option to delete the text base, the text file or both. The file will be delete immediately, the text base on your next HotSync. Remember you will have to delete one of them if you wish to add it again to the list. If both changed and you do so the conduit will not be able to merge them.
If you don't want a text base to be synced with you desktop just set its action to NONE, or delete it from the list.
Figure 2 shows the main options dialog. The Default Download Directory is where any new bases will be downloaded by default. In this dialog you can also change the sync action that will be set by default to new text bases found in your device.
The Diff3 Binary should point to the location of diff3.exe in your computer. At first it will be set to the installed diff3, you can change, but remember the conduit works with cygwin's diff3.
Extra Backup option lets you set the amount of extra backups to keep for each text the conduit tries to upload, download or merge. Its a safety measure. On unstable versions you should keep it at a reasonable number, on stable version you can set it to zero and disable it. Backups of both, the file and base, are made before any changes are applied to them.
The Slow Category Scan will force the conduit to scan all text bases on each HotSync to get category info. Only the first record of each base must be read for this, but if many text bases are present on your device it may take some time. (Not too much really.) Without this option the conduit will only read the category from new bases, or when changes are detected. Not all palm applications mark the base as changed when the category is changed.
Get Base List on Sync will make the conduit download a complete list of all bases you have on your device. You will then be able to select a base from a list when you add them to the list. You can disable this option to make the conduit run faster if you do not use the base list, but the time it takes is really small and the benefits are big.
Add New Bases on Sync will add any new text bases the conduit finds to the list. They will be added with the default sync action you defined. When this option is off you must add new bases manually. Keep the option off if you have lots of text bases you do not with to synchronize.
The Default Base Options are used to initialize the settings of a new entry in the text list. Its particularly useful when the Add New Bases on Sync option is turned on.
Binary Mode will make the conduit write text files on the desktop ending lines with ``nl'' only, instead of ``cr nl'' (which is the normal line ending for texts in Windows). If you can not think of any use for it, then you probably do not need it.
No Compression will make the conduit write text bases using no compression. The conduit will always handle compressed or uncompressed text bases automatically while reading.
Word Wrapping will word wrap texts to the specified width in characters. A value of zero will disable this feature. See section 8 for a more detailed explanation on how this works.
Figure 3 shows the dialog with a text base and text file options. You can set the sync options for that particular base in this dialog, or change its category.
If you press the buttons next to the text base field, or the text file field, a dialog will pop up, where you can choose a file or a base. Remember the base list is only available of you did not turn the appropriate option off.
Category changes will be made on your next HotSync.
